Beginner Crochet: Shepherd’s Knitting

July 16 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Beginner Crochet: Shepherd’s Knitting
Join us as we master ‘Shepherds Knitting’ an ancient form of crochet which uses a large hook and what we would call a ‘slip-stitch’ in modern crochet. This technique goes by many names, most notably ‘shepherds’ or ‘Scottish’ knitting as it is said to have been invented by Scottish shepherds who would ‘knit’ while they watched over their sheep. We will create a small wearable such as a hat, small scarf or pair of wrist warmers as we get to know this extremely important and versatile stitch!

Please Note:
Crochet requires fairly good finger dexterity. Please keep that in mind.

Instructor: Kiara-Isabella Mackenzie
Kiara-Isabella Mackenzie is a multidisciplinary artist who works primarily with textile materials and techniques. A recent graduate of Moray School of Art, Kiara-Isabella spent their time there honing their skills in textile crafts and exploring the limits of textile use in Fine Art. While studying, Kiara-Isabella has also worked as a Creative Intern, and more recently as a Graduate Artist, with M:ADE (Moray Arts Development Engagement), an arts charity based in Elgin delivering workshops in the Moray area. From modern computerised sewing machines, to ancient heritage crafts such as ‘lucet’ cordmaking, Kiara-Isabella uses techniques from across the spectrum of fibre arts. They especially enjoy sharing these techniques and crafts with others through group workshops and one on one teaching.
