Volunteers are the heartbeat of Step by Step. They are kind, considerate, non-judgmental, and empathetic. The ability to build trust in people where trust can be difficult is important, as is the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with adults and children. Our volunteers support Step by Step staff during group sessions by providing a welcoming face to our families, engaging with them through conversation, play, activities and stories. They help prepare and serve snacks, tidy up and feedback information to our staff at the end of each session. All our volunteers must be aged 18 or over and eligible for PVG membership.

In return we offer a taster session, induction training, training workshops and expenses.

The role can be morning, afternoons or evenings for as little as a few hours a week.

Our mission to promote the well being of people over the age of 50 in and around Forres, is helped by volunteers joining us as “Befrienders”. They help make life enjoyable and fulfilling and reduce social isolation. You might befriend people through our telephone befriending service, through face to face work, or by supporting older people’s events in the area. We are looking for volunteers with a friendly, outgoing personality, an empathy for older people, and who want to make a difference. Befriending calls are typically made in the morning or afternoon, and older people’s events can run at any time. How much you can support us, is up to you.
